Infinity Collective is an ensemble of professional soloists with a variable geometry, initially conceived around percussion but now incorporating a variety of instruments. Chamber music, electro-acoustic, large ensemble, Infinity explores the styles of different eras, including new technologies (electronics, video), and radiates towards various types of concert, dance, theater, circus or visual arts performances.
Originally there is the RIT association, which has been running a series of seminars around the Timpani since 2003 and which, under the impulse of Benoit Cambreling, created in 2006, the first major event, the “Rendez-vous Internationaux de la Timbale”, the only event in the world dedicated to this instrument. RIT’s mission is to promote percussion and especially the timpani, an instrument whose potential is immense, as we have seen in Beethoven, Bartok and Berlioz. An instrument that deserves to spend the classical orchestra as a solo instrument, as for example in the compositions of Elliott Carter. Inspired by this passion, Benoit Cambreling wanted to continue the research around this instrument by creating RIT.
RIT regularly commissions works in world premieres from International class composers. These include Jean-Pierre Drouet, Heinz Holliger, Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou, Malika Kishino, Alessandro Solbiati,… RIT supported the creation of the european timpani concerto by William Kraft and Bruno Montovani. RIT also co-produced a CD in tribute to Elliott Carter by Benoit Cambreling and Yi-Ping Yang. In addition, RIT accompanies the contemporary creation of wider fields where timpani could be introduced in very different styles such as for example in the Theater piece Migrance(s) by the Lumas Company. RIT is also invited /concert partner in France and abroad in Mexico City, Taipei, Shanghai, Shanghai and Seoul
